About Me

I began serving at Bethesda since August of 2015. I had served at another fabulous church, Triumph Lutheran Brethren in the Fargo-Moorhead area for 25 years before my wife and I moved to Eau Claire.

I am Lead Pastor serving as the main preaching pastor, overseeing worship, and giving leadership to the vision of Bethesda and directing the ministry team.

My mom and dad took me to church as an active little boy but I asked Jesus into my heart on Sept 18, 1972. I heard the speaker talk about heaven and hell and I know where I didn’t want to spend forever! In High School, I experienced the gospel clearly preached and lived out in the passionate life of my youth pastor. My senior year in High School, at a Bible Camp in Northern Minnesota, the Lord put a call in my heart to serve Him full-time. God has graciously led me through incredible educational opportunities as well as surrounding me with great mentors and leaders, and a vast number of godly and life giving friends and peers.

This city boy from Minneapolis married a Norwegian farmer’s daughter, Julie Lynn (Tollefsen) from Crookston, MN in 1987. I married way out of my league. Julie is an elementary teacher. She is a sweetie and when possible enjoys scrapbooking, walking, and spending time with her larger extended family. We have three young Adult children Danielle (who is married to Matt Casperson — die hard Packer fan), Josh, and Josiah. I love to laugh, watch espionage movies with stuff that blows up, read, watch sports, run — kind of — eat black and red licorice together, consume monster nachos, am a proud member of Team Pheasant, hunt deer (never got one but have tons of cool hunting gear . . . that is saying something) , and never, ever get tired of hearing about the extravagant grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This shepherd bleeds Purple. Every fall I do drink the purple Kool-aid and say emphatically “This will be our year!”
