About Me

I’ve had the privilege of serving as a pastor at Bethesda since January 2010. Prior to that I was also on staff in youth ministries from 1996-2000 and 2006-2010.

In my role, I supervise and encourage the Support Staff and many part time Ministry Staff, work with the Trustees, Elders and Staff to manage budgets and the use of our facility, and work with the Adult Ministries Committee to oversee and develop our LIFEgroups. I also enjoy opportunities to preach and teach and to talk with people about challenges and opportunities in their faith and lives.

I grew up in a church-going family and always remember wanting to please God. However, while most people around me thought of me as someone who did the right thing most of the time, I knew what we confessed in church was true — I had sinned against God in thought, word, and deed, by what I had done and by what I had left undone; I had not loved my neighbor as myself nor loved God with my whole heart. But while it made sense to me that God loved the world enough that Jesus died for our sins, I didn’t think I was significant enough or worthy enough that He meant that for me.

Then, my freshman year of high school, I was on a retreat with friends, and one of the speakers taught us from Psalm 139, that God knit us together in our mother’s womb, and that all His works are wonderful. For the first time I realized that God explained in the Bible that He loves everyone — even me, that we are all valuable to Him. In fact, God loves and values us so much that he made a way for us to defined by our relationship with Him, rather than by our sin and our rebellion. Jesus died to pay the penalty of our sin, even while we were still rebelling against God (Rom 5:8). That night changed me. God knows me and loves me and every person that has ever lived!

My wife Kristen and I met at Bethesda, and we have been married since August 1998. We have three children who are growing fast: Brianna, Kami, and Kip.

I am a fan of the Vikings (and Manchester United)
